Together We Can End Hunger in Stouffville

The Whitchurch Stouffville Food Bank is 100% volunteer run, and our volunteers are at the heart of our day-to-day operations.  Their passion and contributions are invaluable in our mission to combat hunger and food insecurity in Stouffville.


As a volunteer, you will play a crucial role in supporting our operations while working with other like-minded community members who share your passion for making a difference.

Volunteer Positions:

We are currently looking for volunteers to fill the following roles:

  • Food Recovery - Bread Volunteers
  • Bingo Night Volunteers


Please fill and submit the accompanying form for consideration, being sure to note scheduled times for volunteer roles. Applicants must be Stouffville residents ages 18 years and older. High school students interested in volunteering can consider our student food drive program.  


A one year commitment is required, and training and ongoing support will be provided. A Vulnerable Sector Check is required after acceptance, and some roles require additional confidentiality agreements.  


Food Recovery - Bread Volunteers

Pick up, bag, and store bread following safe food handling guidelines.  A large clean vehicle is helpful for pickup, but a smaller vehicle is also useful.  Minimal lifting (approx 10lb).  Food handling certificate is an asset.  


Saturdays: 6:30 to 8:00 pm


Bingo Night Volunteer

A structured volunteer role with training provided, and a great way to represent and support our Food Bank and community. Duties include assisting customers, cleaning tables, tucking in

chairs, and supporting players. 

      Travel to Richmond Hill is necessary for this role. Time commitment is one shift every 8 to 10 weeks with the ability to take extra shifts when they are available.


Sunday evenings: 3 hours per shift

Client Service Day

Pack food and hygiene items for distribution to Food Bank clients as part of a small team.  Follow client day procedures, ability to learn and operate software applications, good communication skills and empathy.  Ability to work under pressure with attention to detail to serve clients efficiently during a short timeframe. 


Mondays: 9:00 am -12:30 pm

Wednesdays: 9:00 am - 12:30 pm

Sundays: 12:30 - 4:00 pm, twice per month 


Administration Team

Oversee a variety of programs including volunteer on-boarding, scheduling, and food drive coordination. Liaise with external organizations (Routes) to arrange deliveries.  Assists other volunteers with administrative help when requested.  Requires good organization and communication skills, familiarity with Google Sheets, Google Docs and working in a team environment.


Mondays: 9:30 am -12:30 pm

Tuesday: 9:30 am -12:30

Wednesday: 9:30 am -12:30 pm


Warehouse

Sort and stock food in the warehouse.  Ability to lift 30 lbs and work at height is an asset. Must be able to follow warehouse work and safety procedures, have high attention to detail (Best Before Date checking) and work well in a fast paced, experienced team.  

 

Thursdays: 9:00 am to Noon


Purchasing team

Working under the direction of the Purchasing Manager, purchase and deliver food items from local stores to the Food Bank. Familiarity with grocery prices is beneficial. 


Flexible days: 4-6 hours per week, ensuring perishable food is available for client days 


Drivers

Volunteer drivers pick up and deliver food and hygiene items from local grocery stores or businesses to the food bank.  During holiday season, drivers may be requested to assist with food drive pick ups.  Time commitment is 4 hrs per week across 1-2 days, one week per month, on a rotating schedule. 


Mondays: 9:00 - 10:30 am 

Wednesdays: 9:00 - 10:30 am 

Occasional Fridays: 9:00 - 10:30 am


Social Media

Works with our Communications Director to support our Instagram, Facebook, X, and LinkedIn presence. Responsibilities include creating, reposting, and commenting on social media posts and ensuring messaging is aligned with our values and social media strategy and voice. Experience with Canva, graphic design, and social media tools preferred.


Flexible days: 3-4 hours per week with additional hours during peak seasons

Board Member Positions

We are not currently seeking new board members.

Director roles at the Whitchurch Stouffville Food Bank are unpaid volunteer positions, but the impact they have on local families and individuals is immense. If you are interested in being considered for a future position on our board, please send your resume to Boardchair@wsfoodbank.ca.
