The Whitchurch Stouffville Food Bank is 100% volunteer run, and they are at the heart of our day-to-day operations. Their passion and contributions are invaluable in our mission to combat hunger and food insecurity in Stouffville.
As a volunteer, you will play a crucial role in supporting our operations while working with other like-minded community members who share your passion for making a difference.
Below are some of the operations positions we need to fill from time to time. If you see yourself as a fit for any of these roles, we would love to hear from you! Apply using this form and we will keep your application on file for future consideration.
Warehouse:
Sort and stock food in the warehouse. Ability to lift 30 lbs and work at height is an asset. Must be able to follow warehouse work and safety procedures, have high attention to detail (Best Before Date checking) and work well in a fast paced, experienced team. Time commitment is 4 hours per week, Thursday mornings.
Client Service Day:
Pack food and hygiene items for distribution to Food Bank clients as part of a small team. Follow client day procedures, ability to learn and operate software applications, good communication skills and empathy. Ability to work under pressure with attention to detail to serve clients efficiently during a short timeframe. Time commitment is up to 5 hrs per week, Monday or Wednesday mornings or Sunday afternoon.
Purchasing team:
Working under the direction of the Purchasing Manager, purchase and deliver food items from local stores to the Food Bank. Familiarity with grocery prices is beneficial. Flexible time commitment 4-6 hrs per week across multiple days to ensure perishable food is available for client day distribution.
Drivers:
Volunteer drivers pick up and deliver food and hygiene items from local grocery stores or businesses to the food bank. During holiday season, drivers may be requested to assist with food drive pick ups. Time commitment is 4 hrs per week across 1-2 days, one week per month, on a rotating schedule.
Food Recovery - Bread Volunteers:
Pick up, bag, and store bread following safe food handling guidelines. A large clean vehicle is helpful for pickup, but a smaller vehicle is also useful. Minimal lifting (approx 10lb). Food handling certificate is an asset. Time commitment is 2 nights per month, approx two hours per night. Pickups are at 8pm Tuesday and 7pm Saturday - bagging and storing follows pickup.
Administration Team:
Oversee a variety of programs including volunteer on-boarding, scheduling & food drive coordination. Liaise with external organizations (Routes) to arrange deliveries. Assists other volunteers with administrative help when requested. Requires good organization and communication skills, familiarity with Google sheets, Google docs and working in a team environment.
Must be a Stouffville resident 18+ years. Vulnerable Sector check required after acceptance. Some roles require additional confidentiality agreements. Training and ongoing support will be provided. A one year commitment is required.
Board Members
We are not currently looking for additional Board Members
The goal of our Whitchurch Stouffville Food Bank is to provide food to individuals and families within our town. The Board of Directors make decisions with respect to the operation of the Food Bank, guard the public trust, and serve the community of Whitchurch-Stouffville.
Initial term: 2 years
Duties:
• Attend all Board meetings to discuss relevant operational and strategic issues and contribute ideas and insights.
•Assist the Chairperson and other Board Members with food donation pick up, monetary donation receipt and tracking, communications, fundraising, grants
Qualifications:
• History of community-based efforts, whether in Whitchurch-Stouffville or elsewhere is a strong asset.
• Strong work ethic and commitment to helping those who are in need.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Demonstrated computer knowledge and skills.
• Outgoing and nonjudgmental attitude.
• Commitment to collaborative teamwork.
• Stouffville resident preferred
• Vulnerable Sector check required after acceptance.
